Nature reserve of Mesnil Soleil

A protected natural site

The Mesnil-Soleil site is in the municipality of Damblainville. It is part of the Monts d'Eraines. It rises to 156 m and has an elevation of 50 m.
A basement is composed of calcareous sedimentary rocks, pronounced and steep topography explains the presence of unique vegetation on the reserve's slopes, apart from the rest of Normandy.

This uncommon vegetation is responsible for the ongoing development of local flora and fauna and is characteristic of hot, dry grasslands.

Very rare plants, some of which exist only there in Normandy (Minimal CoronilleBrunelle with large flowers) are flourished. Orchids and other characteristic plants abound.

Many insects feed and reproduce only through dependence upon plant species. This phenomenom explains the presence of more than 200 butterfly species.
